AKWAABA
ANNOUNCES PLANS TO OPEN ITS FOURTH INN:
A BED & BREAKFAST SPA RETREAT IN THE BIG EASY! Akwaaba
Bed & Breakfast owners Monique Greenwood
and Glenn Pogue confirm they are in contract to purchase
an eight-room inn in the eclectic Bywater section
of New Orleans. Located just 25 blocks from The French
Quarter, the Victorian bed and breakfast is tucked
away on a quiet, secluded street and will be the
perfect retreat after partying on Bourbon Street,
gallery hopping and shopping on Magazine Street or
braving the swamp tours of the Bayou.
And we do mean perfect retreat. Monique reveals
that Akwaaba in the Bayou will be an all-inclusive
bed and breakfast and spa. For one value-packed price,
guests will reserve a three-night, four-day stay
that includes a beautiful guest room, an expanded
continental breakfast each morning, spa lunches,
and dinner options each evening that include a poolside
bar-b-que and dining at one of New Orleans' famed
Creole restaurants. What's more, the inclusive package
features a spa treatment in the relaxing spa cottages
located on the tropical, landscaped grounds (there
are even banana trees!). A heated in-ground pool
and an outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub are available to guests
24 hours. Monique estimates packages will start as
low as $175 per person, per night.
"We are extremely thrilled about this new location," says
Monique. "New Orleans has long been a favorite
city of mine and Glenn's, and when we surveyed our
guests at our existing locations about the top five
U.S. city's they would like to visit, New Orleans
almost always made the top three. The spa component
is new for us," Monique continues. "And
we absolutely know our guests will revel in this luxurious
amenity."
The couple expects Akwaaba in the Bayou to be up
and running for The Bayou Classic football tournament,
which takes place in the city over the Thanksgiving
holiday weekend. Those traveling for a specific event
or on business can also stay on a non-inclusive nightly
basis with double occupancy rates at about $150 a
night.
