weekend. There’s nothing quite like it anywhere;
that’s why the kids come from everywhere.
Bayou
Classic—November 29, 2008
Those familiar with this spirited event know it’s
more than just a football game. What began as a friendly,
gridiron rivalry between Southern University and Grambling
State University, two large HBCUs, has grown into a
major event for African-Americans across the country.
From the Super Job Fair to the Battle of the Bands to
the endless parties, this is an event not to be missed.
Mardi
Gras—January 25 - February 6, 2008
New Orleans’ premiere party season, Mardi Gras
is a time to enjoy life, revelry and good times. Everyone
should experience the world’s largest, free outdoor
party at least once in a lifetime. Catch throws from
the floats of the many parades, get dressed up in costume
yourself, go to a ball. Whatever you choose, you’re
sure to have a ball as the good times roll!
NBA All-Star Weekend—
February 15-17th
French
Quarter Festival—April 11-13, 2008
Enjoy 250 hours of free entertainment featuring more
than 150 musical performances on 15 stages throughout
the French Quarter over a three-day weekend. Nearly
60 food and beverage booths located in three venues,
including Jackson Square, make up the “World’s
Largest Jazz Brunch,” a signature event, featuring
authentic local cuisine from renowned area restaurants.

Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival—April 25-27,
2008 and May 2-4, 2008
Music lovers from all over the world converge in New
Orleans last weekend in April and the first weekend
in May for seven days of musical entertainment ranging
from blues and jazz to pop and gospel on multiple stages.
Of coursefood, with unique creations like crawfish bread
and alligator p-boys, rounds out the mix.

Arts Festival—June
This festival, held the second weekend in June, embodies
the cultural jambalaya that is New Orleans. Showcasing
music, art and cuisine from all over the world, this
festival celebrates the diverse cultures that help make
New Orleans the most unique city in the nation truly
promoting “One world, One love.”
Essence
Music Festival—July 4-6, 2007
This “party with a purpose” is highly anticipated
each Fourth of July holiday when the brightest minds
in the African-American community come together for
inspiring and empowering seminars during the day, while
the night is filled with the music industry’s
hottest acts rocking the house.
Satchmo
Summer Festival—July 31-August 3, 2008
In honor of New Orleans’ most famous cultural
ambassador, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, this
festival celebrates the city’s musical heritage
with the food and sounds unique to the Big Easy. Held
in the French Quarter, the fest also includes art exhibits,
jazz works, photos and memorabilia, along with an evening
concert, a jazz mass and a second-line parade.
